EYE REJUVENATION - "Tired of Looking tired?"
In this article, Dr Kylie explains how non-surgical procedures to improve the eye region, can help to eradicate the "tired look".

“People always tell me I look tired even though I don’t feel tired.”  This is one of the most common statements that people make when they come to see me to seek advice on cosmetic medical procedures, says Dr Kylie Regli of Cosmetique Solutions.

As we get older , the changes which occur around our eyes can give a very tired looking and aged appearance. Dr Regli explains that, reduction of skin elasticity , repetitive actions of muscles in the upper face ,  bone structural changes and shrinkage of facial fat deposits all contribute to the changes in the upper face as we age.

Wrinkles develop around the eyes and in the frown and forehead regions,  the eyebrows descend resulting in a hooded appearance, temples become hollow ,  the cheeks become flatter and a tear trough develops under the eyes.  A baggy or puffy appearance under the eyes due to fat pad protrusion can also occur in some individuals.

The eyes are seen as the window to the soul because they can give clues as to what another person is thinking. When it comes to cosmetic medicine, the eye region is the window that shows your age, says Dr Kylie. If we use this analogy, it is actually the framework and the “wrinkled drapes” around the window that I  treat non-surgically. Cosmetic muscle relaxant injections are used to treat the wrinkled skin and give a slight lift to the eyebrow region. Various Dermal Fillers are used to refurbish the surrounding areas of fatty tissue loss, like the temples and flattened cheeks.  As tear troughs become deeper over time they lead to the appearance of dark circles under the eyes and can accentuate the appearance of “bags under the eyes”. Small quantities of Dermal Fillers can also be used in this tear trough area provided the  individual does not have too much skin  laxity, says Dr Regli.

Make an Informed Decision about Cosmetic Injections
Dr Kylie Regli, a doctor working in the cosmetic medicine industry for over a decade shares some "inside" information about Cosmetic Injectables

Make an Informed Decision about Cosmetic Medicine Procedures

From a consumer’s point of view, it can be very difficult to determine where to go when seeking cosmetic medical treatments.  In particular, there can be quite a price variation between clinics providing these services. As a doctor working exclusively in the cosmetic medicine industry for the past decade, I would like to share some information which may help to alleviate some of the confusion, says Dr Kylie Regli of Cosmetique Solutions. Here are some frequently asked questions about the Cosmetic Injection that treats dynamic facial wrinkles such as frown lines and crow’s feet. Unfortunately, I am unable to mention brand names, however, there are only two brands approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia and both are Schedule S4 drugs and can only be prescribed by Doctors.

Comment:  “I went to another clinic because they had a special and I had Cosmetic Injections for my frown lines. The result wasn’t as good as usual and it didn’t last as long !”

Explanation:
The result of Cosmetic Injections for dynamic facial lines and the length of the result is dependent on three main factors :

  1. the total number of units you receive
  2. the specific location of the injection points
(dependent on the skill of the injector)
  3. the “freshness” of the product (beware of practices that are not performing the treatments on a regular basis. There is a time frame over which the solution must be used otherwise it will lose its potency)

Comment: There is such a price variation between clinics. How do I know I am getting a fair deal?

Explanation: You need to consider three factors 1) the price you are paying per unit 2) the number of units you are receiving 3) the length of time the results last for you.

At Cosmetique Solutions, I recommend the 20 unit dose per area because it is very effective and lasts between 3 and 6 months, with most people attaining a 4 to 5 month result. We charge $14 per unit and less if you are treating more than one area.  It’s simply a matter of doing the maths!

Comment: “I have been to a few different clinics for wrinkle treatments and my results last different amounts of time. I think some places must have diluted it or watered it down!”

Explanation: To explain this misinterpretation, the anti-wrinkle injection which treats dynamic wrinkles in the upper face is a purified  protein that is supplied to Doctors in a sterile vial in a powdered form. To enable the Doctor to inject the product it must be mixed with a sterile solution of saline. So, in that sense, all Doctors must dilute it to be able to render it into an injectable sterile solution.  The amount of solution mixed with it will determine the concentration of the Cosmetic Injection. Dilution ratios may differ slightly between different clinics, but the critical point is the total number of units you are receiving rather than the specific concentration.

Here at Cosmetique Solutions, I perform all of the cosmetic medical procedures myself , so you will see me for your treatment everytime. I feel that it is important to tailor the treatments to the individual and that way I can get the best results for you every time. Although, as a general rule, in the typical areas, I recommend  20 units per area to ensure the longest possible result for my clients, there are individual circumstances where the 20 unit dose may not be necessary. I assess this on an individual basis and the price is calculated according to the $14 per unit price. For example, if a person only needed 6 units in an area like the top lip lines then the cost would be $84.

3D Full Facial Rejuvenation
The popularity of non-surgical cosmetic medical procedures continues, as new products and techniques are developed. Nowadays people lead very busy lifestyles. They want to look good, but they can’t afford the time off work that accompanies the more invasive surgical procedures.

3- Dimensional Facial Rejuvenation

The popularity of non-surgical cosmetic medical procedures continues, as new products and techniques are developed.  Nowadays people lead very busy lifestyles. They want to look good, but they can’t afford the time off work that accompanies the more invasive surgical procedures. The talk is about preventing the effects of aging on the skin rather than letting the aged appearance become so advanced that the only option is an invasive procedure. In the current financial climate, the considerably smaller price tag on cosmetic medical procedures as opposed to more extensive cosmetic surgery may also play a role in the popularity of the non-surgical options.  However, recent statistics suggest that the number of “nips and tucks” have been declining well before the global financial crisis. In my experience, patients are becoming more familiar with the non-surgical procedures, the cosmetic injectable products themselves are improving over time, and medical professionals are becoming more adept at using these products and putting them to new uses in the aging face.

The emphasis is on “Combination Treatments”- that is, using a variety of non-surgical cosmetic procedures together to obtain superior results. At Cosmetique Solutions , I use this philosophy to rejuvenate the skin “three-dimensionally”  The  Cosmetique Skin Rejuvenation Programme combines three separate modalities to improve the skin. The Refirme’ Skin Tightening device uses combined radiofrequency and infrared light  to heat and tighten the lower level of the skin by remodeling  the dermal collagen. The second part of the programme employs the Ellipse Flex IPL device to treat abnormal pigmentation and blood vessels in the upper layers of the skin. The third dimension incorporates dual crystal microdermabrasion to treat the very surface, ridding the skin of dead surface skin cells, and unblocking and refining pores. Once the clarity and texture of the skin is improved with this 3-Dimensional approach, combinations of other non-surgical treatments can be used to address other features of a tired-looking or aging face. Various dermal fillers are used to enhance youthful contours of the face, replenish lost volume and definition in lips and treat facial wrinkles. Techniques which employ the popular muscle relaxant injectables can achieve a subtle brow lift or Nefertiti lift for the jawline.

Each treatment alone has its own merits, however, use a combination of treatments and the rejuvenating effect on the face is superior. I really want to see my patients get the best results possible so I offer packages of combined treatments that are more cost-effective for people than doing a series of separate treatments. If you would like me to discuss a combination of treatments to best suit you, then please contact Cosmetique Solutions on 55 755 644.

You would like to know how to look refreshed, less tired and get your glow back. You want to look more youthful, yet don’t want to “go under the knife”: You want your friends to notice that you are looking good, but you don’t want them asking whether you’ve had a cosmetic procedure. For you it’s all about looking natural and maintaining your appearance as your biological clock continues to tick. You want a simple affordable anti-aging routine.

At  Cosmetique Solutions, I listen to similar remarks every day. “Cosmetic Maintenance” is the term that we use to encompass all of the non-surgical cosmetic medical procedures used to achieve these concepts. These days, there are a variety of minimally invasive treatments that we can perform to maintain a refreshed image for our clients. Statistics show that many people are now turning away from surgery and starting cosmetic maintenance treatments earlier in the aim to limit the need for more invasive and expensive procedures in the long term.

Here are the most commonly performed cosmetic maintenance treatments at Cosmetique Solutions, according to facial region.

  • Upper Face – muscle-relaxing injections for forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet lines and for an eyebrow lifting effect
  • Mid Face – contouring and dermal fillers to augment cheeks and facial hollows  and soften nasolabial folds
  • Lower Face – dermal fillers for replenishment of lost lip volume and definition, lip lines and marionette lines. Muscle-relaxing injections and Refirme Skin Tightening for jawline definition.
  • Skin Surface Clarity and Texture– Intense Pulsed Light , Medical microdermabrasion and chemical peels, Refirme Skin Tightening, Ellipse Flex Photospray, Surgitron Cosmetic Mole Removal, Professional Skin Care Products

Most of these treatments can be performed in less than half an hour and depending on the procedure type, maintenance treatments are required between one and three times per year. For many women, it is like getting their hair done. They know their “cosmetic maintenance “schedule and book it into their routine. People who maintain their results with regular treatments often get better and longer lasting results.

So take the time to look after yourself and plan your cosmetic maintenance. If you would like a consultation with me to design an individual cosmetic maintenance plan then call us on 5575 5644. Just ask for the obligation-free consultation on the Cosmetique Make-over.

Nefertiti Lift
The ancient Egyptian queen, Nefertiti is famous for her natural beauty and well defined neck and jawline. A European dermatologist , Dr Philip Levy, first used the name “Nefertiti Lift” to describe the use of muscle relaxing injections along the jawline and upper neck to help define the jawline and give the appearance of a “mini-lift”.

What is the Nefertiti Lift?

The ancient Egyptian queen, Nefertiti is famous for her natural beauty and well defined neck and jawline. A European dermatologist , Dr Philip Levy, first used the name “Nefertiti Lift” to describe the use of muscle relaxing injections along the jawline and upper neck to help define the jawline and give the appearance of a
“mini-lift”.

How is the procedure performed?

Several fine injections are administered along the jaw line and upper neck to relax a small area of the platysma muscle on both sides. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes to perform and results gradually become visible over a period of 7 to 10 days.

How does it work?

These muscle relaxing injections are commonly used in the upper face to
treat lines and wrinkles. The appearance of the skin along the jawline is dependent on the balance between the elevator and depressor muscles of the lower face and neck. By relaxing the depressor muscles with the cosmetic  injections , we can tip the balance toward elevation of the lower face. This allows the skin to drape the jaw line in a way which results in a more defined appearance of the lower face and neck.

How long does the effect last?

There is a variation in the length of time that the treatment lasts
in different individuals. In general the results last between 3 and 5 months in most people.

Am I a candidate for the procedure?

The Nefertiti Lift is not effective in all people. If there is too much fatty
tissue along the jaw line or the skin has become very lax in this region visible results may not be achievable with this technique. There is also a variation in the degree of results in different individuals with some people only achieving
a very subtle result and others obtaining more obvious results.

It is best to have a consult with Dr Kylie to discuss whether you are a
candidate before booking in for the Nefertiti Lift.

Are there any side-effects?

All medical procedures have risks. Although the risks of side-effects
with Botulinum toxin are temporary and very low, the side effects are related
to weakening of surrounding muscles. (In the Nefertiti Lift these muscles
include the muscles involved in swallowing and the muscles supplying the corners of the mouth). Careful placement of the injection points and adhering
to the recommended dose, limits the risk of these complications significantly.

How much does the procedure cost?

The cost is related to the number of units of Botulinum toxin used.
In most people the standard dose for the Nefertiti Lift is $490.
