What is the Nefertiti Lift?
The ancient Egyptian queen, Nefertiti is famous for her natural beauty and well defined neck and jawline. A European dermatologist , Dr Philip Levy, first used the name “Nefertiti Lift” to describe the use of muscle relaxing injections along the jawline and upper neck to help define the jawline and give the appearance of a
“mini-lift”.
How is the procedure performed?
Several fine injections are administered along the jaw line and upper neck to relax a small area of the platysma muscle on both sides. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes to perform and results gradually become visible over a period of 7 to 10 days.
How does it work?
These muscle relaxing injections are commonly used in the upper face to
treat lines and wrinkles. The appearance of the skin along the jawline is dependent on the balance between the elevator and depressor muscles of the lower face and neck. By relaxing the depressor muscles with the cosmetic injections , we can tip the balance toward elevation of the lower face. This allows the skin to drape the jaw line in a way which results in a more defined appearance of the lower face and neck.
How long does the effect last?
There is a variation in the length of time that the treatment lasts
in different individuals. In general the results last between 3 and 5 months in most people.
Am I a candidate for the procedure?
The Nefertiti Lift is not effective in all people. If there is too much fatty
tissue along the jaw line or the skin has become very lax in this region visible results may not be achievable with this technique. There is also a variation in the degree of results in different individuals with some people only achieving
a very subtle result and others obtaining more obvious results.
It is best to have a consult with Dr Kylie to discuss whether you are a
candidate before booking in for the Nefertiti Lift.
Are there any side-effects?
All medical procedures have risks. Although the risks of side-effects
with Botulinum toxin are temporary and very low, the side effects are related
to weakening of surrounding muscles. (In the Nefertiti Lift these muscles
include the muscles involved in swallowing and the muscles supplying the corners of the mouth). Careful placement of the injection points and adhering
to the recommended dose, limits the risk of these complications significantly.
How much does the procedure cost?
The cost is related to the number of units of Botulinum toxin used.
In most people the standard dose for the Nefertiti Lift is $490.
